Pictet in Amsterdam, Beirut

There’s just a few more days for you to catch the Prix Pictet Power exhibit at the Huis Marseille Museum voor Fotografie in Amsterdam. And if you happen to be in or near Beirut, check out Power at the Beirut Exhibition Center, where it will be until June 30th.

Munich, Paris, Istanbul, Budapest, Dublin, Amsterdam, Beirut… that’s quite a list so far!

Syngenta Photo Awards exhibit

syngenta_somerset1 The Somerset House has been a familiar stop for Daniel’s work, lately. First the Landmark exhibiiton by the Positive View Foundation showed some of Daniel’s photos in March and April, then the Syngenta Photography Awards, for which Daniel was a finalist, included some of his photos for their own exhibit at the Somerset House from May 17-21!

Sadly, it doesn’t look like Daniel’s work will be coming back to this lovely venue for a while, but we’ll be sure to let you know when it does.

Landmark exhibit in London

landmark_coverDaniel is very excited to share the news that he was invited to participate in Landmark: the Fields of Photography exhibit presented by the Positive View Foundation. It was quite an honor for Daniel to be included amongst 70 highly regarded fine art photographers in an exhibit that was centered on the role of the environment in contemporary photography. The exhibition features three of his works – two from the Amazon, and one from the Gulf of Mexico SPILL series.

Daniel was able to attend the opening of the exhibit and enjoyed seeing old friends, while also making new connections with others who share his passion for our changing environment. The exhibit opened to very positive reviews, a few of which are here, here, here, here, and here (yikes!). Landmark was up on the walls of the stately Somerset House in London until April 28th.

These prints were auctioned off at Christie’s Auction House to benefit the Positive View Foundation on May 15th, which is noteworthy since Christie’s featured Daniel’s Spill #4 on the cover of the auction catalog (pictured above)

SPILL at G2 in Venice

spill_g2_panoramaA full exhibit of SPILL went up on the walls of the G2 Gallery in Venice, California and opened on March 5th. Daniel was especially thankful for the opportunity to raise visibility of the Gulf Oil Spill while the civil trial against BP is taking place almost three years after the spill began. Proceeds from the formal opening – which Daniel was able to attend – were donated to Greenpeace USA. SPILL at G2 ran until April 21st. The gallery show at G2 garnered the attention of NPR’s affiliate in Los Angeles, KCRW, which produced a really nice interview of Daniel.

Once the G2 Gallery show of SPill closed, some of the prints were moved to the Sturt Haaga Gallery in beautiful Descanso Gardens, just 20 minutes outside of L.A.  The exhibition will be on view from May 5th until July 28th.

Also, here is a cool video of the opening reception:

SPILL @ Human + Nature in Kirkland

kirklan_humannaturephoto by Will Braden

Three SPILL prints by Daniel were selected for an exhibit at the Kirkland Arts Center called “Human+Nature” that opened on March 1st and ran until April 6th, just across the bridge from Seattle in Kirkland, Wash.. It was a cool opportunity for Daniel’s local friends to see some of his work in person! Fingers crossed that another chance can be arranged soon.

Pictet in Budapest, Istanbul

pictet_istanbulThe Prix Pictet Power exhibit moved on from Paris to Istanbul and Budapest in January 2013, both very lovely venues. The Hungarian House of Photography showed Power on its walls from January 18 to February 24 and the super cool Istanbul Modern hosted the exhibit for a slightly-longer-than-usual-Pictet stop from January 30 to April 28. A brief review of the stop at the Istanbul Modern was in Today’s Zaman here.istanbul_modern_screencap

ICE in Montreal

montreal_iceSome photos from Daniel’s ICE series were displayed in Montreal as part of the Lumino-Therapie exhibits that were organized by the Quartier Des Spectales Montreal. While possibly not the most comfortable arrangement, viewing the photos of ICE in the outdoor cold of Montreal between December 6 and February 3, 2013 did at least create a quasi-virtual reality experience!

ICE in Aspen

Aspen might have had a lighter than usual snowfall this past winter, but they did have ICE, Daniel’s new gallery exhibit, from December 14 to February 18, 2013 at Quintenz & Company. ICE showed a glimpse of melting ice-scapes from around both polar circles and British Columbia. Many of the photos were from an expedition to the Arctic to document the decline in summer sea ice in September 2012, when it was measured to reach its smallest minimum (summer) extant since satellite observation began in the 1970s.

The prints at the show – up to 48″x72″ – were produced by the excellent folks at Toronto Image Works, who also make prints for Daniel’s SPILL exhibits. They look fabulous and we hope you get a chance to see them in person!

Below, Daniel talks a bit about his approach to photographing ICE.

CEG at Art Miami

The Catherine Edelman Gallery in Chicago, Daniel’s fine art representative, took several of his prints to Art Miami in December for display in their booth/section of the art fair.  Three of these were from the SPILL series, and one debuted his ICE series, and they garnered plenty of positive response. Many thanks to Catherine and her team for exposing Daniel’s work to a new and important audience!
